Square Competitor SalesVu Ups Its Game With New Features For Restaurants, Retailers & More

salesvu-dongleSalesVu, the maker of a mobile payments service designed for business customers, is launching a major update with SalesVu 2.0, live now in the iTunes App Store. The company is somewhat similar to Square, in that it also includes a dongle that plugs into an iPhone or iPad and works alongside an accompanying mobile application. However, the company is focused on providing tools that address more complex business needs than simply taking credit cards via a mobile device. For example, SalesVu currently offers real-time analytics reporting and the ability for businesses to post offers directly to Facebook through social sharing?mechanisms. With the release of SalesVu 2.0, a number of improvements have been added for business users, including things like receipt printing, barcode scanning, employee timekeeping, and online order processing, to name a just few.

Microsoft invests $300 million in new Barnes & Noble 'strategic partnership'

Image

Well, that's an interesting end to all those legal tussles. Microsoft and bookseller Barnes and Noble have decided to buddy-up in the face of competitors like Amazon and Apple. The strategic partnership -- Microsoft loves 'em -- would come in the form of a new Barnes and Noble subsidiary that deals with all things Nook, in addition to its education business. The bookseller would hold onto the lion's share at 82.4 percent, with the remaining 17.6 percent in Microsoft's control. The first benefit posited would be a Nook app for the incoming Windows 8. Barnes and Noble's Nook Study software would also benefit from a friendly boost on all that Windows hardware. Maybe all those other legal matches will resolve in similar warm-and-fuzzy business hook-ups -- but we doubt it.

Sony ST21i 'Tapioca' spotted, Xperia Sola gets a little brother

Android Central

We've seen references to a budget-oriented Sony phone codenamed "Tapioca" before, but until now the device itself has remained a mystery. Things are becoming a little clearer today, however, with the first leaked images of the phone showing up on Greek site ?Techblog?. Rumored specs, included along with the photos, include a 3.2-inch HVGA screen, an 800MHz CPU, 512MB of RAM and a 3MP camera. Interestingly for a budget device, the Tapioca is said to run Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, so it looks like Sony's had no trouble packing ICS onto lower-end hardware.

The front of the device is the spitting image of the Xperia Sola, a mid-range Sony handset that made waves shortly after MWC due to its "floating touch" tech. Given the Tapioca's budget leanings, though, we'd be surprised to see floating touch lurking inside this device. No pricing or availability details are provided along with today's leak, but an earlier roadmap suggests it'll hit in July around the €150 mark.

N.O.R.E Featuring Styles P and Raekwon: Google That [Video]

Dropping today is N.O.R.E.s "Google That," one of the most memorable tech references in recent rap memory since Rick Ross said he was "selling dope straight off the iPhone." Watch out though, because it might get stuck in your head with a chorus that repeats the phrase synonymous with Internet search more dozens of times. (Bonus: it also includes a Game of Thrones reference). More »
