Listen To Your Heart | Love Relationships

In 1988, the pop duo Roxette, released a song titled ?Listen to Your Heart,? which seemed to catch the world by storm. It was certainly a song written to entertain the masses, but like many other songs, it contained some very good romantic and relationship advice. If you?ve ever been with someone that everyone else felt was not right for you, this is a phrase that you?ll definitely understand.

Many times through life most people will become attracted to and or involved with someone that others feel is not the person for them. There may even be some valid reasons for the objections from these people who profess to care about you and your future. However, when it all comes down to the bottom line, you, and only you, can decide whether someone is right for you or not.

Consider that boyfriend or girlfriend you brought home to meet your family. You are totally smitten and the feelings are reciprocated. However, when your parents take a look at your chosen intended, you can see that this is going to be a long haul. Sure enough, when they get a private moment with you, the first thing they start doing is trashing this person you?re so in love with. This can, and does, continue happening every day. The thing you need to decide is how you are going to deal with it.

You may decide that it is polite to let them talk. Hear them out and find out what reasons they have for objecting to your love. Unless they have already hired a private detective and have a dossier filled with discretions committed by your chosen, the reasons they have will probably not make a lot of sense to you. Many families feel that all they should have to do is object to the match and that will take care of it. You will be expected to end things with the person and find someone who?s more ?acceptable.?

Now, what do you do?

This is the part where you listen to your heart. What is it saying to you? Does anything your family is telling you make any sense to you? Do they have any validity in what they are saying? If they are telling you things that really do not carry any weight with you, it may be time to make a hard decision.

Many times families become really hard to get along with and threaten to cease all contact with you if you do not give up the love of your life. Honestly, if they are behaving that selfishly, you probably would not miss them all that much anyway. Listen to your heart and see what it is telling you to do.

If your heart is saying that these people who are supposed to care about you are only interested in their OWN happiness, even at your expense, and you TRULY LOVE this person, it would seem that your answer is pretty clear. Perhaps, you would do better to tell your family that you?ll miss them, but you want a life with this person, and that is that.
